‘Dancing with the Stars’ Week 2: Another Celebrity Exits, Guest Judge Prepares to Join the Mix
Another couple goes home in the second episode of this week's back-to-back "Dancing with the Stars" extravaganza.
It was the pro dancers' time to go back to their hometowns, a heartwarming scene that displayed just how big the ABC show has become.
The results of the previous night's episode were not entirely surprising as Chaka Khan wrapped up her dancing stint after two underwhelming performances. Tuesday's exit was similarly expected with Triple Crown-winning jockey Victor Espinoza saying goodbye to his fellow dancers along with her pro partner Karina Smirnoff.
His exit comes after his strongest performance at the show, a confident rumba that earned the pair a combined score of 20 points.
Although Espinoza was out of the running for the Mirror Ball trophy, the athlete remained charming and in good spirit, saying that he had "an amazing time tonight" after learning that he was eliminated, according to ABC News.
The pair who was waiting for their fate alongside Espinoza and Smirnoff logged in the lowest score of the night. Funnyman Gary Busey and Anna Trebunskaya staged a dramatic paso doble, but didn't quite achieve all the moves correctly and ended the night with a disappointing 15 points.
On the other end of the spectrum, the night's highest scorer was Tamar Braxton and pro partner Val Chmerkovskiy, defending champ of the coveted Mirror Ball trophy. "The Real" host and Chmerkovskiy displayed their unique chemistry on the dance floor, prompting the show's host Tom Bergeron to say, "It's like you bicker your way into really great routines." The judges praised the couple's attention to detail and chemistry, handing out the highest score of the night of 25 points.
Also bouncing back spectacularly from a middle-of-the-pack performance the previous night were Nick Carter and Sharna Burgess, who put on a smooth foxtrot show. The stage was set beautifully and the pair danced just as well, to the joy of the impressed judges. Carter got the second highest score of the night with 24 points.
In the show's third week, we will see "Dancing with the Stars" season 19 champion Alfonso Ribeiro return to the show to sit at the judges table. In an interview with People, Ribeiro expressed his joy at being back at the show in a different role.
"Guest judging on 'Dancing with the Stars' is like returning home for me but with the big twist of being on the other side of the judge's table, which is both a relief and exciting," he shared.
