Halo 5, Xbox 360 & Xbox One News: Microsoft Announces Release Date Plus Trailer and Gameplay [VIDEO]
The March issue of the Official Xbox Magazine has announced that Halo 5 is coming this year.
Halo PR person Rob Semsey recently confirmed the news via Twitter.
"Rest assured your next Halo journey WILL begin in 2014 #staycalm," he said.
The release date will most likely be announced at this year's E3 in June. Microsoft has stated that the series will make an appearance at the event.
According to reports, the campaign will be 3-5 times longer than in Halo 4 with an open world instead of linear. Master Chief has gone rogue, has his own ship and can visit 6-8 different planets. Each planet has regions with different main objectives and several side missions.
The core gameplay still has 2 weapons, grenades, and melee, but there are new RPG character progression elements added in. New items like forerunner relics can make Master Chief stronger or give him more abilities, and you have to acquire weapons first before being able to use them in missions.
Weapons are stored in the armory of the ship and Master Chief can choose the ones he uses when the mission starts. He can still pick up and use the weapons he finds in the missions. Load out weapons are similar to Halo 4 multiplayer, with the ability to call in weapons like rocket launcher at low level and more often as you upgrade. There will also be more alien weapons in the campaign than in Halo 4.
As for enemies, Master Chief will still fight with the Elite faction from Halo 4: Grunts, Jackals, Hunters, Brutes, Drones. There will also be heavily redesigned Promethean Warlords and insurrectionist humans.
A lot of new vehicles are being added as well. Warthog still comes in classic, rocket, and gauss. Also look out for the Scorpion, Grizzly, Mammoth, upgraded Mantis, plus more Halo Wars vehicles like rhino, wolverine, cobra, hornets, falcons, and vultures. Master Chief's ship will only be able to store a limited amount of vehicles, so you will have to choose wisely according to the mission.
