Will it finally be Leonardo DiCaprio's time this year? He has been in the business for a long time and has given some stellar performances in the past, yet the Oscar trophy remains elusive for the 39-year-old, who has been acting for almost two decades.

DiCaprio has been acting since 1989. He has consistently been a multi-talented and award winning actor, turning in stellar performances one after the next. However, a sore spot for him has always been the Oscar trophy, which has thus far remained out of his grasp. The actor is nominated this year for his starring role as the Wolf of Wall Street, and the nomination he received for this year's 86th Academy Awards is only the fourth time he has received a nod by the Oscars selectors. Only one man is standing in his way, it seems, and that would be Matthew McConaughey. Movie-goers love a comeback actor, and the support for McConaughey for his role in Dallas Buyers Club is very high.

McConaughey seems to have done everything right to win the title of the Best Actor Award this year: He lost a lot of weight, which almost certainly affected his general health, his character is based on a real person that has a deadly illness and yet becomes a hero for his fellow sufferers, plus he still remains humble, charming and witty.

Lately, DiCaprio's roles have been more gripping, as he likes to take on different genres. Just take a look back at some of his outstanding performances in Titanic, Catch Me If You Can, Inception, This Boy's Life, Marvin's Room, The Departed, Blood Diamond and Revolutionary Road. His performance in The Wolf of Wall Street as a stockbroker who later turned into a crook was impressive, and he has Martin Scorcese in his corner. Hopefully, it will be enough to push DiCaprio up to the podium to make his first ever acceptance speech at the Oscars.

Fans of McConaughey say that he has made a calculated risk in taking challenging roles recently, but DiCaprio fans will be quick to point out that he has long been taking those kinds of roles before McConaughey did.
