Queen Elizabeth's (Rachel Skarsten) alliance with Catherine de Medici (Megan Follows) will backfire in Episode 2 of "Reign" Season 3, leaving both queens in jeopardy.

On Friday, Broadway World shared a synopsis of Episode 2, which will air on Friday, Oct. 16, a week after the Season 3 premiere.

In that episode, Elizabeth has to endure the political consequences for harboring Catherine, who is imprisoned once she returns to France. Meanwhile, the future of Scotland could be at stake, forcing Queen of Scotland Mary Stuart (Adelaide Kane) to make some difficult choices. The synopsis also reveals that Lola's (Anna Popplewell) feelings for Stéphane Narcisse (Craig Parker) will make her have second thoughts about her love life.

The CW published the video below on Sept. 14, which features Skarsten discussing her character. The actress reveals that viewers will see a personal side of the queen in the upcoming season, as well as her skills as a ruler.

"I'm looking forward to sort of playing not only her strength, but also her insecurities," Skarsten says in the clip. "Elizabeth especially has arguably one of the most powerful nations in the world, and viewed as somewhat illegitimate, felt incredible insecurity about keeping her place."

Skarsten adds that Elizabeth will often act like she has everything under control when she really doesn't.

Entertainment Weekly reports that, as Mary and King Francis (Toby Regbo) enjoy their reconciliation, his illness returns.

"We're now dramatizing a health crisis for him," showrunner Laurie McCarthy told Entertainment Weekly. "Francis, unlike the previous seasons, is going to move forward believing that his death may be imminent and he will make decisions accordingly."

He and Mary will make decisions based on his limited time, which will add "incredible poignancy to their relationship." It also causes them to take shortcuts they wouldn't otherwise consider.

McCarthy would not say how long Francis will live, but she promised that he and Mary are "happy and they're really relishing every moment."

Fans who have been wanting to see more Frary will get "a lot of Frary," she said.

Meanwhile, Bash (Torrance Coombs) is still coming to terms with what Sister Delphine (Alexandra Ordolis) did to him at the end of Season 2.

"They will remain linked, not just romantically, but in an inexplicable way," McCarthy said. "They're going to have this really intense bond and she'll be back."

Not only will she return, but she and Bash will be involved in yet another life-threatening story, when a "dangerous presence" begins taking lives at the French court.

At the end of last season, Narcisse betrayed Catherine. What will happen now between him and Lola?

"He's going to turn toward Lola," McCarthy said, adding, "But that is not going to go very smoothly."

McCarthy teased that Narcisse pursues Lola, but his relationship with Catherine may not be over.

"I think Narcisse and Catherine are incredibly well matched. They're well matched in battle; they're well matched in bed; they're well matched intellectually. But he loves Lola," McCarthy said.

"Reign" Season 3 premieres on Friday, October 9 at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW.
