Green Bay Packers vs Kansas City Chiefs: NFL Monday Night Football Predictions & Preview
The Green Bay Packers and Kansas City Chiefs will face off in the third Monday Night Football game of the season. This is a very interesting matchup because the Packers and Chiefs play in separate conferences, so we only get to see them face off once every four years. This is a rematch of Super Bowl I.
Let's preview the game and pick a winner.
Green Bay Packers (2-0)
As expected, the Packers have inserted themselves as one of the best teams in the league right out of the gate. The Packers (as always) beat the Chicago Bears, and last week defeated the Seattle Seahawks in a rematch of last year's NFC Championship game. Jordy Nelson is out for the year, but James Jones already leads the team in touchdown receptions.
The Packers offensive line will have their hands full in this game. The Chiefs have a great pass rush with Justin Houston and Tamba Hali. Fortunately for the Packers, Rodgers has a quick release and he is a very mobile quarterback who can avoid the pass rush.
Dom Capers' defensive unit isn't viewed a elite, but they won't be facing a strong offense on Monday night. The Chiefs have no downfield passing game whatsoever, and you can bet the Packers will be focusing on stopping Jamaal Charles throughout the game.
This will be the second consecutive home game for the Packers before they travel to the west coast to take on the San Francisco 49ers.
Kansas City Chiefs (1-1)
What a devastating loss it was last week. It looked like the Chiefs were finally going to defeat the Denver Broncos at home, but they allowed two late touchdowns to lose the game. The Chiefs are now 1-1, and the Broncos are once again in first place in the AFC West.
It doesn't look like the Chiefs will be wining the AFC West yet again, but a wild card spot is still possible. With The Pittsburgh Steelers losing Ben Roethlisberger for an extended period of time and Baltimore Ravens falling to 0-3, the window is still open.
Alex Smith has to start opening the field more. His "no touchdown pass to a wide receiver" drought is hurting this team's offense. Without any deep ball threat, opposing teams will continue to stack the box against Charles. Jeremy Maclin and Travis Kelce are Smith's top targets.
Things won't get much easier for the Chiefs. Next week the Chiefs will face the Cincinnati Bengals on the road.
Schedule
The Packers and Chiefs will play each other on Monday, Sept. 28 at 8:30 p.m. EDT. The game will be played at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. You can watch a live game stream here.
Prediction
Aaron Rodgers is perfect at home. So perfect that he hasn't thrown an interception at Lambeau Field in two years. Despite being a No. 1 overall draft pick, Smith hasn't shown he can make accurate throws over 20 yards, and that's not going to outscore Rodgers at home. The Packers will be 3-0 after Monday night.
Packers win 27-17
