The 28-year-old girlfriend of Jim Carrey was found dead of an apparent suicide on Monday, following a recent breakup with the famed comedian.

TMZ reports Los Angeles police were called to the Sherman Oaks neighborhood home of Cathriona White some time Monday night, where they discovered her body. Reports are she left a note addressed to Carrey, in which she reflected on their split earlier this month.

On Sept. 24, in her final tweet, White posted, "Signing off Twitter, I hope I have been a light to my nearest and dearest."

Carrey has since released a statement, saying, "I am shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of my sweet Cathriona. She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled. My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit with a lightning bolt."

Sources indicate White is believed to have died of a drug overdose, and pills were found next to her body. Two friends discovered her after going to her home to check on her.

The 53-year-old Carrey and White began dating in 2012, but split after a few months, before reconciling earlier this year.

A native of Ireland, White lived and worked as a makeup artist in Los Angeles. Just last week, she posted pictures from a recent birthday dinner celebration on Instagram.

"Before going for a wonderful belated birthday dinner at Nobu in Malibu last night," she wrote beside a selfie.

Back in May, she and Carrey were spotted walking hand and hand in New York City.
