Wendy Williams Show News: Host May Change Format to Attract A-List Guests
Wendy Williams' desperate attempt to book more A-list guests may have to be accompanied by a change to her current gossip-styled format.
According to the New York Post, though her show has fared well in the ratings game against formidable completion like "Live! With Kelly and Michael" and "Ellen," Williams has long struggled to attract top guests.
To address the issue, producers recently hired former "Chelsea Lately" booker Siobhan Schanda. Now, other major changes could soon be on the way.
"Wendy was never really getting the caliber of stars like Kelly [Ripa] and Michael [Strahan]," a source said. "So they brought in Schanda. Wendy will tone down the gossip to get bigger stars. A-list celebs want that friendly, soft, People magazine thing."
Currently, one of Williams' most popular segments of the show is "The Hot Seat" sequence, in which she relentlessly grills her star guests. In one recent instance, Neil Patrick Harris is rumored to have been given his "Hot Seat" questions in advance.
Even more recently, Williams engaged in a war of words with former "Real Housewives of Atlanta" star Kim Zolciak, after the talk show host hinted she was convinced the "Dancing with the Stars" contestant was faking the stroke she suffered that led to her leaving the show.
"Absolutely appalling how disgusting for you to insinuate I 'faked' my mini stroke on your show this morning," Zolciak posted on Instagram. "You mad cause I didn't come on your show! This clearly shows your warped mentality!!"
During Monday night's episode, Zolciak made her exit from the show, following a week in which she was unable to travel between Atlanta and Los Angeles for rehearsals.
"DWTS" host Tom Bergeron told viewers rules stipulate, when a contestant is unable to participate in segments due to illness or other health-related matters, they must withdraw from the competition.
