Facebook Profiles: Facebook Users Can Make Profile Picture Move
The Facebook profile picture is coming to life through the abilities of videos.
Thanks to some new features being introduced this week, Facebook users can record short videos to make their profile photo a video instead of a stationary picture.
Users will be able to use the Facebook app for iPhone to record a seven-second video that will include sound, TechCrunch reports. This video will serve as the user's new Facebook profile photo. When someone goes to a Facebook profile with a moving profile photo, they will see the seven-second loop without sound. When they click on the photo, they will hear any sounds in the video.
Facebook says this "brings the profile to life" and that visitors will "get to know the person better" by having a moving profile picture.
Facebook employees showed off their moving profile pictures which show a hat dropping onto a head, their hair blowing in the wind and a slow smile developing. It will be up to the Facebook user to make a creative seven-second video.
There are more new features coming to Facebook as well. Featured Photos will allow Facebook users to select five of their most important photos that tell people who they are. These Featured Photos are supposed to reveal a person's personality, favorite things or activities.
Temporary profile pictures will be used to correspond to specific events or moods. If it is Christmas season, the temporary profile picture could be the user in front of a Christmas tree. The temporary profile picture can then be replaced with the main profile picture when Christmas ends. Temporary profile pictures can even be put up for just a few hours.
A new About section will help users explain who they are and be displayed right below the profile picture. If the privacy is set to public, details about where the Facebook user is from, their job and their education will all be right under the picture. This replaces the need to click on About when looking at profiles.
The new changes to Facebook are being tested out this week and will slowly roll out to all users.
