'Viva Today' Latin Music Series: J Balvin to Perform on 'Today' Show Concert Series
Reggaeton artist J Balvin has been confirmed as a performer on the "Today" show's "Viva Today" Latin Music Concert series.
The Colombian rapper will be featured on Oct. 6, as part of the concert series that honors Latino artists every year during Hispanic Heritage Month, reported Billboard.
Balvin, who is currently on his "La Familia" tour, hasn't made the announcement himself, but confirmed the report by retweeting the Billboard story.
The concert series will not be the only chance fans have to catch Balvin in New York. He will also be performing at the Best Buy Theater along with singer and tourmate Becky G on Oct. 3, reported Telemundo.
The 30-year-old is one of Latin music's biggest and fastest growing artists of the moment. Besides recently winning four awards at Premios Lo Nuestro, including Urban Artist of the Year and Urban Album of the Year for his debut album "La Familia," Balvin has been nominated for a total of five Latin Grammy Awards throughout his career.
His most successful hit to date "Ay Vamos" is up for Best Urban Performance and Best Urban Song at the 2015 Latin Grammys.
Balvin is also up for Best New Artist, Song of the Year, Male Artist of the Year: Urban, Favorite Urban Song and Favorite Streaming Song at the first ever Latin American Music Awards, scheduled for Oct. 8.
Also adding to his success, the video for his latest single "Ginza" just became the fastest Spanish-language video to reach 100 million views on Vevo.
When Vibe asked Balvin about his inspirations, the successful rapper gave a surprising answer, saying he wants to do in reggaeton what Drake is doing in hip-hop.
"That fact that he is from another country and a different culture and breaks all the cultural barriers with his music, it's an inspiration for what I'm doing with reggaeton these days," the rapper said of Drake.
