NBA 2K16 is receiving excellent reviews and the new MyCareer mode is just one of the reasons for its success.

MyCareer mode has been a feature in NBA 2K since NBA 2K10, but this year's version of the mode is by far the best, Sports Illustrated reports. Past versions of MyCareer mode were never as detailed and drama-packed as NBA 2K16's version.

In NBA 2K15, players had to take a character from an undrafted free agent to earn a guaranteed contract. In NBA 2K16, players time travel back to the character's high school days, make a choice on a college, impress scouts while in college and then head to the NBA Draft.

Besides performing on the court and impressing an NBA team, players will face offcourt drama like a money-hungry agent, a friend who everyone considers a bad influence, endorsement deals and much more.

Players will be able to upgrade their character quickly by practicing and focusing on improving their attributes or slowly by playing in games and not practicing.

Gameplay has improved in NBA 2K16 too. Controls have been refined to make shooting, passing and playing defense even more advanced. Some players will take a little while to master the system, but they will be able to run advanced basketball plays and schemes just like real NBA teams do. Big and tall players will be more valuable in NBA 2K16 than ever before thanks to 32 new back-down animations that will allow them to control the paint with their size.

Players can also run their own franchise and they will be offered many options to customize their team. They can change the colors, the logos, the court, the uniforms and even move their team to a whole new city.

Relocating to a new city will take some planning and strategy. Players will have to convince the 29 other owners that the move makes sense and will be profitable. Choosing a city with a big media market will be easy, but convincing the owners of a move to a small town will be difficult.

The MyCareer mode improvements make NBA 2K16 a great basketball video game, but the other improvements make it excellent.
