Sony VR and What You Need To Know About the New-Gen Platform
Virtual Reality gaming is becoming a trend that developers are skeptical to fully implement as it also has its own issues that need to be addressed. Recently, Sony launched its own virtual reality platform, the PlayStation VR. Here are several things you need to know about it, which sets its whole concept different from other VR gaming platforms.
According to VG247, the PlayStation VR has several parts that need to be explored before you can actually say something about it: screen quality, the types of game that can be played on it, demo software and its physical effect on the gamer.
Sony's PlayStation VR has been very accurate with their Move Peripherals as hinted by Sony London Studio's Dave Ranyard. He said, during an interview with VG247, "The Move controllers were always very accurate with what they track. Those ones you've been using have still got the old USB port on them."
The VR also showed rather grainy graphics compared with that of TV sets and consoles, something that was a bit odd given that it was a new-gen platform. Sony confirmed this and assured that they would fix the slight glitch. Apparently, the balancing and compromising of graphics for speed took its toll on the device's development.
The Sony PlayStation VR had at least 100 prototypes during its developmental stage, covering everything from the device's physical aspect to its core system.
Ranyard, however, did not confirm whether a VR platform will also contain a 12-hour game just like the conventional gaming consoles. He said, "It is a very immersive experience so whether you need 12 hours and some multi-player or you can just tell a great story in two hours, we'll have to see what the market says."
Eurogamer reported that Sony's Shuhei Yoshida deliberately attended the EGX primarily to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the first ever PlayStation, and, at the same time, introduce the PlayStation VR that is scheduled to launch next year.
When asked about the future of the VR, he said, "It's like launching a new platform, and it's a huge effort, and it's super exciting. As far as for the VR in the future is concerned, I have no question that in a few years everyone will be using some VR tech as part of their lives."
He also talked about how VR will be used in the future, saying, "As far as VR, for the future, is concerned, I have no question that in a few years everyone will be using some VR tech as a part of their lives. Even outside entertainment systems. It's a new tech, it's a new media."
