Pacquiao vs Bradley Fight 2014: Will Ferrell Pays $24,000 for Boxing Tickets
Prime boxers like Manny Pacquiao are known to pull celebrity appearances and A-list individuals for their big matches. And for his upcoming rematch with Timothy Bradley on April 12, Will Ferrell will surely be among the high-profile personalities watching the event.
Bad Left Hook reported that the comedian recently bought a pair of front row tickets for the fight for a whopping $24,000.00. Ferrell secured the tickets after outbidding everyone at his win charity auction for the benefit of the Cancer for College.
The auction was held at the Desert Smash tennis tournament which the actor hosted in Palm Springs California last Tuesday, March 4. According to Daily Mail, the event featured matches between professional tennis players and celebrities. Performances by Nelly and Boyz II Men were also featured during the event.
Other celebrities who joined Ferrell in the event were "Community" star Joel McHale, Rebel Wilson, Kevin Spacey, Jon Lovitz, and Kevin McKidd. Wilson and McHale teamed up against the twins Robert and Mike Bryan for a tennis match.
Spacey partnered with No. 3-ranked tennis player Stan Wawrinka against the team of Ferrell and No.2 player Novak Djokovic. In an article on My Desert, the "Anchorman" star joked about the match and said, "You know what else is inspiring? Me embarrassing Kevin Spacey on a tennis court in front of a thousand people. Those Academy Awards aren't going to help him one bit when I'm raining fire on him from the baseline."
All proceeds of the event were donated to Cancer of College, an organization that has been supporting cancer survivors since 1993 through scholarship programs.
Founder and cancer-survivor Craig Pollard said, "College expenses are through the roof, and you couple that with medical expenses - they get caught. They can barely afford their medical bills, let alone put money away for college."
In a statement, Ferrell said, "Cancer for College is an amazing cause. To see these cancer survivors realize their dream of a college education is inspiring."
