Fans of the '80s classic TV show "MacGyver" now have a new reason to cheer: The show is being rebooted for CBS and there are a few details that are praiseworthy.

According to Variety, the show will not just be a return to the original, nor will it pick up where it left off in 1992. It is a prequel to the original show and will feature the young action hero and technical guru in his formative years, honing the skills that got him out of numerous jams and even helped him save lives.

So will Richard Dean Anderson be back? That is a big no. Though, actually, the answer is also yes.

Anderson will be serving on the reboot series as a producer and will work with the project in several behind the scenes capacities. Although there are no intentions to feature him onscreen, unless they have a psychic that can see into the future, he will be heavily involved with the project.

"MacGyver" featured Anderson in the title role and was a covert operative that was a hero to many. But it was not his ability to kick some major butt that saved lives but his ability to think outside of the box.

He was incredibly smart and knew a lot about the world and how things worked. So with all that knowledge at hand, he was able to use certain elements around him to diffuse dangerous situations. There was even an episode where he used a chicken egg to fix a radiator leak so he could drive a truck down train tracks on its rims to get away from the bad guys.

Although there has been no word yet on when production will start or when the show will debut, CBS has made it a part of the current cycle and put it on priority status.

It also has "Furious 7" director James Wan attached to it.
