As expected, Microsoft announced their latest Surface tablet at the special Windows 10 event Tuesday. The Surface Pro 4 will update the Surface Pro 3 with new features and specifications.

Microsoft has always claimed their Surface Pro tablets are able to "replace your laptop," ZDNet reports, and the Surface Pro 4 will continue to try to prove that.

The Surface Pro 4 will have a slightly larger screen size, up to 12.3 inches from 12 inches. The entire display will mostly feature the screen itself because the bezels on the edges of the display will be very small, CNet reports. The screen will also display 5 million pixels at 267 pixels per inch, and it will be protected by Gorilla Glass to prevent scratches and cracks.

The Surface Pro 4 will also be extremely thin at just 8.4 millimeters thick, which Microsoft says is the thinnest core PC ever shipped.

Inside the Surface Pro 4 is the sixth-generation Skylake processor from Intel. The Surface Pro 3 included the fourth-generation Broadwell chip, and the upgrade to the Skylake processor aims to make the Surface Pro 4 faster and better on battery. Microsoft says the new processor is 50 percent faster than the processor inside the Macbook Air laptop.

The company also introduced an update to the accessory for the Surface tablets called the Surace Pen. The new version of the device will be super-sensitive with 1,024 levels of pressure, making writing on the screen even easier for users. The pen will have an eraser to correct mistakes, and users will be pleased with the ultra-long battery life of the Surface Pen, which lasts up to an entire year before needing a charge. The Surface Pen will also magnetically attach itself to the tablet to prevent loss.

The Surface Pro 4 will also have a lot of ports for a tablet. Four USB 3.0 ports will offer plenty of places to plug in external devices like mice, DVD drives or external hard drives. There will also be two 4K DisplayPorts and an Ethernet port.

Additionally, a new Surface Pro Type cover is coming with better key placement, a glass trackpad and a fingerprint sensor, allowing users to login to their tablets without a password. The new Type cover will be available in five different colors and will also work with the Surface Pro 3.

Microsoft is facing competition from Apple with its new, larger iPad Pro and from Google, who just introduced the 10.9-inch Pixel C tablet with a slim keyboard.
