Fox Orders Pre-Apocalyptic Drama Series ‘These Final Hours’ [Watch]
The drama of post-apocalyptic series' have taken the TV airwaves by storm, but now, a pre-apocalyptic drama will start winning the TV audiences over with "These Final Hours."
According to Deadline, broadcast network Fox has picked up the rights and a script commitment to the TV series, which is based off an Australian movie of the same name. The movie premiered last year during the Cannes Director Fortnight and has since gotten a lot of critical praise.
The basic premise behind the TV series is a meteor is going to hit and three siblings have to race against time to get to a bomb shelter their estranged father had built in the San Francisco area to avoid the catastrophic consequences of the meteor's impact.
The movie is similar, but it takes place in Australia and features a lead character that has to choose what he wants to do with the rest of his life because there are only a few hours before it is going to hit. The apocalypse is imminent, and the main character decides he is going to head for an end of the world party, until he comes a cross a young girl who needs help finding her father. It is an emotionally charged film with a few twists and turns that lead the man to a more redemptive cause.
The TV series, which hails from EuropaCorp, was originally intended for cable, given the more mature themes present in the film and series. But Fox has picked up the rights to it, and the show will be featured with toned down themes that will be acceptable for the FCC's guidelines.
Both the movie and the TV series face the viewer with the most primal of questions: What would you do if you knew the world was about to end? One can expect that there will be some chaos and many different people choosing to do the things they would have never done in civilized society, which can be both ominous and wholesome.
