Microsoft has just unveiled the Windows 10 along with the launching of their latest Lumia line, but consumers are already asking when will the updated OS be available on older versions of the Lumia? Currently, the Lumia 550, Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL carry the Windows 10 OS out of the box, but from a recent announcement by Microsoft, the new OS might head on to older versions of the Lumia series by the end of this year. 

The Windows 10 has apparently made every consumer's task easier by improving the Action Center app of the phone as well as a new and better Microsoft Edge browser.

Microsoft made the announcement about Windows 10 heading out to older phones on their website, saying, "We've recently announced that the next generation of Windows will be available later this year and it is our ambition to make an upgrade available for majority of Lumia smartphones running Windows Phone 8.1. 8GB of internal memory required. Like any upgrade to a new operating system, not every phone will support all possible Windows 10 features. Certain features and experiences will require more advanced future hardware."

To give you an idea of what type of phones are eligible to get the Windows 10 update, according to Microsoft, only phones that currently runs the Lumia Denim (OS Version 8.10.14219.341) or higher will enjoy the advantages and new features of the Windows 10. 

According to TechRadar, some of the few upgrades and tweaks that you can expect from the Windows 10 include ever useful universal apps like Word and Excel being integrated to its PC version. Cortana was also mentioned to help you discover more of the installed apps in the phone. 

The Lumia 435, Lumia 535, Lumia 635 with 1GB RAM, Lumia 640, Lumia 640 XL, Lumia 736, Lumia 830 and Lumia 930 will be the first models to receive the update. The availability of the features may still vary depending on the type of phone.

Just recently, Microsoft held an event to introduce the latest Surface Pro, Lumia 550 (dubbed as their most affordable 4G LTE smartphone) as well as the Lumia 950 and the Lumia 950 XL. 

These devices all came out of the box bearing the new Windows 10 update. They will be ready for pre-ordering and shipment by December. Therefore, all eligible older versions of Lumia can also get the Windows 10 upgrade around that time.
