Facebook will test out more options for interacting with posts and status updates besides the traditional thumbs up "like."

Starting Friday, Facebook will test out the "Reactions" feature that will allow users to react to posts with more emotions and icons. Instead of just "liking" posts, users will be able to react with happiness, sadness, laughter, anger, love and shock, CNET reports.

The new Reactions feature will require mobile users to long-press the like button to see the additional icons. On a PC, users will hover over the like button and will be given these additional options.

When posts receive different Reactions, there will be a counter to display each Reaction it has received.

Facebook Reactions will first be tested in Spain and Ireland only. Facebook wants to see if people will use it in real world settings and if they will like it.

Facebook has stuck with its "like" button since the beginning. There is even a thumbs up sign to greet visitors when they visit the company's headquarters. Facebook users thought that there should be more options for posts than "likes" for when unfortunate events happen like a death in the family or a job loss.

Facebook users thought that there should be a "dislike" button for posts that should receive negative reactions, like sad news. With Reactions, Facebook will allow its users to react in multiple ways, rather than just up and down votes like YouTube, Reddit and other sites.

Facebook's CEO Mark Zuckerburg briefly mentioned there would be more options than just the like button in the future at an event in September. Zuckerburg said, "Not every moment is a good moment," and there would be more ways for users to express themselves soon.
