'Avengers: Infinity War' Rumors: Loki Could Return to Help Thanos
Tom Hiddleston recently revealed why he was cut out of the last "Avengers" movie and hinted at a return to the iconic role.
During an interview with the Digital Spy, the actor revealed that Loki was originally part of a dream sequence, but the scene was ultimately cut because it was confusing.
“I was part of the dream sequence for the character of Thor. I shot for a day and enjoyed it very much, and then I received a phone call from [Marvel's] Kevin Feige [who] said that in test screenings, audiences had overemphasized Loki's role,” Hiddleston said. “They thought that because I was in it, I was controlling Ultron, and it was actually imbalancing people's expectations so [director] Joss [Whedon] and Kevin were like, ‘Let's cut it because it's confusing people.'... It made sense to me when I saw that film."
Loki is one of the most beloved villains in the "Avengers" series, and Hiddleston was praised for his performance in the first film. He has also been called the best villain Marvel and Disney have produced since they started the Marvel universe.
Loki is likely to return in the next "Avengers" film, as his story is far from complete. He will also be in “Thor: Ragnarok," where he will likely continue his villainous quest. After all, when audiences last saw Loki in “Thor: The Dark World,” he had tricked Thor into believing he was dead before proceeding to impersonate Odin. That plot should create an interesting scenario in the films to come.
The next "Avengers" film will feature Thanos as the main antagonist. In the first film, it was suggested that Thanos was behind the attack on New York and could thus be allied with Loki. More of their relationship could be explored in the closing episodes of the franchise.
Hiddleston is currently promoting his upcoming film “I Saw the Light,” which opened at the Toronto Film Festival, where the actor received praise for his performance. The actor is also promoting “Crimson Peak,” which is slated for release on Oct. 16.
“Avengers: Infinity War - Part 1” is slated for release in 2018, while the second part will be released in 2019.
