Apple News, Release Dates: iPad Pro and Apple TV Coming Soon
The iPad Pro, with its larger screen, and the updated Apple TV device will be available for purchase online from Apple at the end of October and in retail stores in November.
Apple used the Sept. 9 iPhone event to also announce the brand new iPad, as well as the updated Apple TV unit with improved internals and features, Tech Radar reports.
The iPad Pro is Apple's first tablet with a large screen. Unlike previous tablets from the tech giant, this device will have a 12.9-inch screen and be geared toward business users.
The tablet comes with the fastest and most powerful processor for a mobile device, the A9X, which is an update to the A8X chip used in the iPad Air 2. The new processor is 1.8 times faster than its predecessor.
Even though the iPad Pro has a much larger screen than previous iPads, it is still thin and lightweight. At 1.57 pounds, the it is just half a pound heavier than the iPad Air 2, while the new device measures just 6.9 mm thick.
Essentially, the iPad Pro is a MacBook with a touchscreen. Since the tablet can be equipped with the optional Smart Cover, it can even act as a laptop. It also has an ultra-long 10-hour battery life, similar to most MacBooks.
The iPad Pro will start out at $799 for the entry-level 32GB WiFi-only version. A 128GB WiFi-only version will cost $949, and the premium 128GB WiFi and LTE model will cost $1,079.
The Apple TV will also be released at the same time as the iPad Pro. It will be available in two versions, a 32GB option for $149 and a 64GB option for $199.
At the Apple event, the Apple TV device was shown playing games, accessing apps and using Siri to look up TV shows and movies. A new remote control was also introduced.
Cable customers eager to "cut the cord" will be pleased with the new Apple TV's offerings.
