Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection a Critical Success
Reviews for Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection are flooding in, and as usual it looks like the highly acclaimed action-adventure series fails to disappoint.
The collection, which features updated of versions of the trio of titles released for the PlayStation 3, is currently holding a positive rating of 86 on Metacritic. Critics have praised the enhanced visuals and higher frame rate.
Aside from the improvements to presentation, little has been changed, and in the case of the Uncharted series that may be a good thing. The three titles have been hailed as some the best games the action genre has to offer.
This is good news for Sony as well, as IGN reports that 80 percent of PS4 owners have never played Uncharted on any system.
"I do, personally, expect the Uncharted Collection to do as well as The Last of Us Remastered," community strategist Eric Monacelli said to MCV.
"Company-wide, our studio loves it. They set the bar at [the studio porting the games to PS4] Bluepoint and did a really good job with everything -- adding new features and making sure that everything looks good. So, yeah, our expectations are high for it. We hope it does quite well."
For those unfamiliar with Naughty Dog's current flagship series, Uncharted is a third-person shooter and platformer that follows the adventures of treasure hunter Nathan Drake. As the charismatic explorer travels the world searching for ancient relics and priceless artifacts, he often ends up crossing paths with some nefarious types who want to beat him to the punch.
The games capture the style of "Indiana Jones" and other adventure stories very well, leading the player through a series of tense and explosive action sequences that feel very cinematic in their execution.
Those who purchase The Nathan Drake Collection will also gain access to the Uncharted 4 multiplayer beta, launching Dec. 4.
Uncharted 4: A Thief's End is set for release in March 2016.
