'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' Rumors: Jesse Eisenberg to Play Lex Luthor's Son?
New plot details have been revealed about the upcoming "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," shifting expectations for actor Jesse Eisenberg's casting in the film.
After fans skeptically received news that Eisenberg had been cast as Lex Luthor, it now seems that the actor is actually not playing the iconic villain. Instead, it has been revealed that Eisenberg will play Lex's son Alexander.
The news was revealed from a Twitter account created for the fictitious Lex Luthor Jr.
The first post from the account also included a fictional write-up of the new LexCorp from Fortune Magazine. The interview revealed that Luthor is "a 31-year-old wunderkind who transformed an aging petrochemical and heavy machinery dinosaur into a tech darling of the Fortune 500 in what some call a superhuman feat."
The article also explained that, unlike Wayne Enterprises, the company run by Bruce Wayne, LexCorp is talking to military contracts, and has a product in the works that Luthor believes will change the world.
The viral campaign is not the first time Warner Bros. has used social media to promote an upcoming blockbuster. The company used similar tactics for last year's "Godzilla," and the results were phenomenal. That film went on to open with $90 million and spawned a sequel.
Warner Bros. is gearing up for the release of "Batman v Superman," as the company hopes that the movie will launch the DC world and will score a gross similar to the first "Avengers" film.
The movie will see the eponymous Batman and Superman facing off against each other. The film will also feature Aquaman and Wonder Woman, as well as the Flash, superhero persona of Barry Allen. Other characters who will be part of the film include Alfred from "Batman," and "Superman's" Lois Lane and Martha Kent.
"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is slated to be released on March 25, 2016. The film will be followed by "Suicide Squad," which will be released in the summer.
