The multiplayer mode of "Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain" is just a week old, but it's already receiving a year's worth of flak, and rightly so. "Metal Gear Online" is marred with game hosting issues, unrewarded experience points and a scarcity of public games.

To address the matter, Konami recently released an apology, but that alone wouldn't cut it. So the gaming studio is giving away 3,000 GP (the in-game currency) as well as extending the validity of the XP boost promo code from two weeks to three weeks. Disgruntled players will start seeing the bonuses anytime this week upon logging in to their respective accounts.

"Since release, the game suffered frequent instances of difficulties maintaining an online connection, and other associated problems such as lag when switching between menu screens. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. The game is currently running in a much more stable manner, but to make amends for the frustrating difficulties users have dealt with so far, we have distributed bonus items, etc. to all users," said Konami via Games Radar.

"Metal Gear Online" players are sure to level up faster with the bonuses at place. The freebie is a win-win situation for Konami as they now have a bit more elbow room to fix the multiplayer mode while players are still busy upgrading their stock.

Hopefully, Konami can repair the online feature in all its glory so it can live up to the story mode's high-quality gameplay.

"Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain" was released for PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC on Sept. 1, 2015. It shipped three million physical copies within its first week across all platforms and has since garnered wide acclaim from a dozen video game reviewers.

Vince Ingenito from IGN scored the game 10 for 10 and said, "The Phantom Pain is the kind of game I thought would never exist - one where every minute gameplay detail has true purpose. Its lack of story focus is sure to be divisive for the Metal Gear faithful, but the resulting emphasis on my story, my tales of Espionage Action, easily make it my favorite in the series."

GameSpot also gave the game a perfect score and cited its subject matter, plot and overall presentation as its main draws. The reviewer went on record to claim Konami's current-gen title is "a contender for one of the best action games ever made."
