Best Smartphone Cameras: Sony Xperia Z5 Best Camera According to Tests, iPhone 6s Ranked 10th
When looking for a new smartphone, customers might want one that takes high-quality pictures. According to a recent camera test on smartphones, an Android phone might be the answer.
A test conducted by DXO Marks, an image quality company, found that the best smartphone camera can be found in the recently released Sony Xperia Z5, which earned a score of an 87 (out of 100). The rating was reached by looking at exposure and contrast, color, autofocus, texture, noise, artifacts and flash, Phandroid reports.
The Sony Xperia Z5 includes a 23 megapixel (MP) camera with autofocus and LED flash. The sensor captures 5,520 x 4,120 pixel still images. DXO Marks praises the camera's autofocus as the best it has tested to date and also notes that pictures have good detail in good lighting and low-lighting situations.
The top 10 smartphone cameras are dominated by Android devices and it is not until the eighth spot that an Apple smartphone appears.
DXO Marks ranks the Apple iPhone 6 Plus as the eighth-ranked smartphone camera with a score of 82. This is actually above the 10th-ranked iPhone 6s, which has the same 82 score, but it ranks lower in low-light situations.
In second place, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge earned excellent scores in the exposure and contrast (90) and autofocus (92) categories.
In third place, the Google Nexus 6P earned positive reviews for its detailed images, accurate and fast autofocus and its flash. This phone is set to be released at the end of October.
In places four through seven are the LG G4, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, the Motorola Moto X Style and the Sony Xperia Z3+.
Even though the iPhone 6s earned the 10th rank on the DXO Marks, it is still a solid 12 MP camera with advanced features. The iPhone 6s Plus did not make the list, but with its optical image stabilization (OIS) features, it is likely to earn high rankings in tests like this from DXO Marks. Also missing from this test is the Samsung Galaxy Note 5.
For smartphone buyers, the top 10 rankings could convince them to purchase an Android if they are looking for a quality camera in a smartphone.
