No Bad Blood Despite Comparison; Bradley Cooper Commends Jennifer Lawrence Gender Wage Gap Essay
Apparently, Jennifer Lawrence gets a nod from one of the "lucky people with d--ks."
Despite his name being dragged in the recent headline-making feminist essay made by Jennifer Lawrence and for being made as a living example of how patriarchy rules in the movie biz, Bradley Cooper commended the Oscar award-winning actress for stepping up against gender wage issue prevailing in Hollywood.
Speaking for an ET Online interview, "American Hustle" actor Cooper admitted that there is indeed a gender wage gap in Hollywood and it's not only the 25-year-old actress, Lawrence, who has spoken against the issue.
The 40-year-old actor stood by Lawrence side after the actress revealed that she was upset that actresses like her, along with Amy Adams, have been paid significantly less than their male co-stars like Christian Bale and Jeremy Renner.
"There's a double standard in the whole world, yeah, for sure. This is just one aspect," Cooper told ET Online while as he promoted his new movie. "Anytime there's a place where a voice can come out and be outspoken -- something Sienna did, or Jennifer-that's great... I think it is making a difference."
Although the actor admitted that he is yet to read the entirety of Lawrence's essay titled "Why Do I Make Less Than My Co-stars", Cooper told E! News that he was curious about it as he had a slight idea of what it is about.
Cooper said that the powerful essay is "interesting" and noted that like Lawrence, he believes that settling down to what's only offered without negotiating is wrong. He added that actresses in Hollywood should think about "changing that mindset and sticking up for yourself the way that Sienna did."
Jennifer Lawrence is not the only one who strongly pushes for equality in Hollywood. Cooper's co-star in his new movie, Sienna Miller, also did her share in fighting against sexism by setting the bar high and turning down a role after she learned that she was offered less than half of how much men in the movie were offered.
Cooper also said that it's not only Lawrence who should have stood up for the disparity in their "American Hustle" wage. The actor told Reuters that he was also shocked of how much his co-star Amy Adams has banked for her role and said that Adams "should have been paid more than everybody." He also hoped that Lawrence inspired actresses like Adams will speak up for what they deserve.
According to Forbes, Lawrence is the top-paid actress in Hollywood whose net worth is $52 million, $28 million short than the top-paid actor in Hollywood, Robert Downey Jr.
