Blizzard Entertainment, the developer behind "Diablo III," has released story details as well as a gameplay trailer for the Crusader Class in the expansion pack, "Diablo III: Reaper of Souls."

According to an article on Cinemablend, Crusaders are armor-clad warriors wielding a shield in one hand and a weapon on the other. Aside from blocking attacks, they can also use their shields to inflict damages and blind their enemies as well. They also have the ability to use the Holy magic and cast spells known as Laws to strengthen their allies.

Based on the description of the new class, gamers might notice that they're a bit similar to the Paladins from the second installment of the "Diablo" franchise. Although the two classes fall under the Zakarum faith, Blizzard clarified their background story differences on Battle.net.forums.

In a statement, the developer said, "Unlike Paladins, the Crusaders are an elite insular group that has seen very little change since their founding, maintaining beliefs and practices close to the original teachings of Akarat. Though Crusaders may exhibit similar ability to wield and bend the Light to their will as their Paladin counterparts, their fervor comes from a much more pure sense of righteousness. This is in part by design. During their formation, Akkhan made certain to only recruit those with the strongest conviction and battle potential. He also actively avoided bringing in anyone with Paladin training, fearful of any existing defilement or corruption carrying over into his crusade."

Blizzard continued, "As a result of this focused purpose and very guarded lifestyle, the order itself is actually quite small. In total, only 427 Crusaders were sent east, and over time, their numbers have dwindled to the 341 known today. In practice, the crusaders remain a loosely organized group, often traveling alone or with, at most, a single apprentice - a partnership which will persist until the Crusader's death."

"Reaper of Souls" will be released on March 25 for the PC, PlayStation 4, and OS X platforms. A previous article on Cinemablend reported that the main feature of the expansion is the Adventure Mode, which adds randomized dungeons and more rewards to the game.

Aside from this, the game will also feature a fifth act, where players go on a quest to the kingdom of Westmarch and Pandemonium Fortress to take on the former Archangel of Wisdom, Malthael, who has stolen the Black Soulstone.
