Gennady "Triple G" Golovkin refuses to fight the Nov. 21 Miguel Cotto vs. Saul "Canelo" Alvarez winner on catch weight for the upcoming World Boxing Council mandatory defense.

"Triple G" becomes a triple threat as he now holds three middleweight championship belts right after stopping Canadian warrior David Lemieux during the eighth round on Saturday at the Madison Square Garden in New York on Saturday, Oct. 17, BBC Sport reported.

With the new International Boxing Federation crown added to his World Boxing Association and International Boxing Organization titles, he seems more vocal and stronger on his stand regarding the issue of catch weights for his next much-anticipated showdown with the Cotto-Canelo bout victor, Boxing Scene noted.

"I'm champion of 160, middleweight is my comfortable weight. For what [reason would I do a catch-weight]? For business or for what? I'm a boxer. I'm the champion of the middleweight division," Golovkin said.

In a way, the "GGG" is directing his statements to the Puerto Rican champ, who remained firm on the 157-pound catch weight for his title defense against Daniel Geale in June, per ESPN. Cotto and Alvarez also agreed on a 155-pound catch weight for their match in Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Boxing Junkie informed.

"If they want to fight with Miguel Cotto, they get to agree with the catch-weight. If not, the fight doesn't happen," Cotto said during negotiations for the Geale fight, via ESPN.

Thus, it is more likely that the 34-year-old champion may also impose the same condition for the said showdown with Golovkin if he gets past Alvarez in November. Otherwise, Cotto may not want to go on with the fight with "GGG" if it is not met.

However, with these recent declarations from "GGG," it will be hard to say which side will give in. Golovkin would want to unify all belts in the middleweight division, per another Boxing Scene article, but he could not get it without getting the WBC crown.

Yet, Boxing Scene noted that either Cotto and "Canelo" now have a lower "bargaining power" against Golovkin, since it is a mandatory defense. Thus, Cotto may have to face "GGG" at 160-pound unless he wants to lose the crown by denying "GGG" of his rightful claim for the spot as WBC middleweight interim champion.

If "Canelo" wins, a Canelo-Golovkin matchup may be easy to stage, basing on Golden Boy Promotions head Oscar De La Hoya's statements.

"Canelo wants to fight him. A fight between Canelo and Golovkin — it has to happen, no reason for it not to," the promoter told the Boxing Scene.
