2 Chicago Police Officers Accused of Sex Trafficking 14-Year-Old Girl
Two Chicago police officers are accused of being involved in the sex trafficking of a 14-year-old girl.
Fox 32 reports the two officers worked for more than 20 years at the Chicago Police Department. According to authorities, they engaged in sex trafficking activities while off-duty.
The discovery was made after the officers were first caught with child pornography. Upon deeper investigation by Internal Affairs, it was revealed that the two cops were soliciting sex and advertising the young girl for prostitution online.
There may have been other victims as well, though it is not clear at the moment.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the officers have been relieved of their police powers and reassigned to paid office positions. The accused are not yet named, as they have not been officially charged with any crime.
The FBI has reportedly been brought in to assist with the department's internal investigation, though an FBI spokesperson would not confirm this.
Chicago Police Department's Superintendent Garry McCarthy also remained silent on the investigation.
Last week, the FBI announced that they made 153 arrests, while uncovering 149 underage children involved in the sex trade in a nationwide sting known as "Operation Cross Country IX." The massive investigation covered 135 cities, and involved over 500 law enforcement officials.
The Chicago Police Department was one of the organizations involved. Three of the children found were from the Chicago area. According to DNAInfo, the youngest child freed in the operation was 12 years old. Out of the 149 victims, three were male and three were transgender.
"Human trafficking is a monstrous and devastating crime that steals lives and degrades our nation," said Attorney General Loretta Lynch in a statement. "The Department of Justice will continue to aggressively and persistently fight this heinous crime, and to hold its perpetrators accountable to the fullest extent of the law."
