HTC is holding a media event today at noon EDT on Tuesday. Watch the live stream right here, embedded at the bottom of this article.
The first non-Nexus smartphone running Android 6.0 Marshmallow straight out of the box is expected to be revealed on Tuesday, as HTC holds an unusual media event to unveil the much-anticipated device.
There doesn't seem to be much about HTC's new smartphone that hasn't already leaked or been rumored about by now. It's expected to be called the HTC One A9, and to be a mid-tier "hero" phone, if such a contradiction in terms can actually exist.
As for the HTC One A9's specs, as we've previously reported, most rumors have centered around a 5-inch 1080p screen with a mid-range (but octa-core) Qualcomm Snapdragon 6xx system on a chip, accompanied by 2GB of RAM.
Rumor has it that there will be an HTC Ultrapixel selfie shooter (for low light), and also a built-in fingerprint scanner on the front. A 13-megapixel main camera is expected on the back.
It's said to have a metal build, and to be quite thin. Expect the HTC One A9 to differentiate itself from the flagship HTC One M9 with some design elements, but also expect the two to look very similar overall.
The HTC One A9 is likely going to be available in more than a couple color options, as the company seeks to pivot away from emphasizing expensive, premium features with few aesthetic options and towards the increasingly valuable mid-level consumer, who generally wants a cheap bottom-line price and more customization.
The HTC unveiling, dubbed #BeBrilliant by the oft-struggling Taiwanese consumer electronics company, is purportedly an all-digital event -- meaning there's no actual auditorium or conference hall where media will be watching and taking notes. It's all online.
And you can watch the event right here.
