Marvel and Netflix are about to score another hit with "Jessica Jones," judging by the dark and gritty themes presented in the first full-length trailer for the show.

According to The Verge, the series debuted its first episode at this year's New York Comic-Con, where the reception was quite astounding. The series is expected to be every bit as good -- if not better -- as the other show from Marvel on Netflix, "Daredevil."  Based on the production details, this show has some serious potential.

Jones, who is played by Krysten Ritter, is a disgraced hero with superhuman abilities, who starts her own detective agency. However, she is recovering from PTSD that was brought on by a character from her past.

The trailer makes it apparent that Jones has all the powers of a superhero, but she is more interested now in simply paying the rent. She is also busy battling the dark revelations of her past misdeeds, actions that she seems to have committed against her will.

Her primary arch-nemesis in the show appears to be a character named Kilgrave, also known as "The Purple Man," played by David Tennant. Kilgrave seems to be the cause of Jones' disgraceful retirement as a superhero, presumably because he forced her to do horrible things.

The show engages the theme of "mind over matter." Kilgrave is a special breed of super-villain, whose power lies not in his muscles, but rather in his mind. He has the power to impose his will on anyone in the series. He can simply tell them to do something and they are powerless to refuse him.

Yet, the villain is also somewhat sympathetic to the audience. He does not consider himself evil at all, but rather claims to be on a mission to better the world in some way.
