In the upcoming episode of “The Blacklist,” life is about to get even more intense for Liz (Megan Boone), as a bounty is placed on her head.

In a teaser for Episode 5 of Season 3, titled “Arioch Cain,” a blacklister has taken it upon himself to track down the fugitive agent.

The intensity of the scenario has turned the usually calm Red (James Spader) into a cautious man. At a standoff in an airplane hangar, Red tells his protégé to “put down her gun,” seemingly surrendering to the agents who want to arrest her.

Speaking to Sky Living, Spader, who has played everything from a voyeuristic drifter in “Sex, Lies, and Videotape” to a sadistic lawyer in “The Secretary,” revealed that when acting out a role, he does not push for any information beyond what is required for him to perform the story at hand. The 55-year-old actor feels that, for a show like "The Blacklist," a sense of fluidity is perhaps the important thing.

“We don't know how long the show is going to live,” he said, adding that, because of the mercurial nature of the project, “One has to have a certain amount of fluidity."

To the Emmy-winning actor, a show cannot survive stagnancy, and so he embraces the mystery of the art as a way to make projects work.

“To nail down the creative forces behind the show to specifics that may not come to light until six years from now is foolhardy -- I think that's a foolish endeavor. I think ultimately it'd be an exercise in futility," he said.

In the next episode of "The Blacklist," Paul Reubens, who has a recurring role on the series as the dapper villain Mr. Vargas, will be back to grace the dark FBI drama with his reliable oddball antics.

The next episode of "The Blacklist" airs Oct. 29 on NBC.
