For the first time, Hollywood legends Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio and director Martin Scorsese all came together on a single project. Though the three had previously each worked with each other, they had never come together like this before.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the short film, titled "The Audition," was commissioned by Studio City Resort and Casino, which was built in Macau, China.

The short film was quite a financial undertaking, also including another Hollywood heavyweight: Brad Pitt. The film is only 15 minutes long, and Pitt doesn't come onto the screen until the 13-minute mark. Nevertheless, the project came with a major payday for all the Hollywood stars involved.

The casino reportedly paid out over $70 million dollars for the film, and it was featured during a presentation in their 5,000 seat theater on location. The LA Times cited Page Six, reporting that each player in the film made about $13 million for two days worth of work.

According to Vanity Fair, in the short film, the actors play fictional versions of themselves, all competing for the same role in a Scorsese film.

"The premise of this competition was very humorous for both of us because we've both done a lot of films with Mr. Scorsese so what would it be like if we both showed up at this casino competing for the same role but we didn't know it yet," DiCaprio said. "But for me, the great joy was finally getting to be on set with both of these guys [De Niro and Scorsese]. This is the greatest relationship in cinema history in my opinion."

Scorsese was also featured in the film in a cameo, and DiCaprio praised his performance.

"The truth is he kind of stole the show," DiCaprio said. "At the end of the day, he's the best out of everyone in this short. He's pretty amazing as an actor."
