‘Ash vs Evil Dead’ Already Renewed For Season 2 Ahead of Series Premiere
If anyone has doubted the strength of the new series "Ash vs. Evil Dead" on Starz, then fans should check out what the premium cable network itself thought of it.
According to Variety, Starz officially announced the series has already been renewed for a Season 2 on the network before even the Season 1 premiere on Halloween this year.
That speaks volumes about the strength of the show for a network to renew a series before it has even gotten fan feedback from it following its debut. The series itself has already gotten a lot of critical praise, and the network has been listening.
Carmi Zlotnik, managing director of Starz, spoke about the decision today and gave the spectacular reasons behind the move.
"One season isn't enough to satisfy the fans' two decade-long appetite for more Ash," Zlotnik said. "The early fan and press support, along with the international broadcaster demand for more story have made it clear that the adventures of Ash Williams can't end with season one."
The network also had no trouble selling the series to more than 100 territories worldwide given the decades of support it already had going for the franchise.
The original film came out in 1981 and at the time billed itself as the "scariest movie you will ever see." But by the time the third sequel came around ("Army of Darkness"), all that scare and gore got coupled in with comedy and fans really loved the transition.
So now, the series has been billed as a horror-comedy and will feature all the exploits that are inherent to the franchise.
It will premiere on the same day worldwide, Halloween, and fans across the globe will get their much-anticipated dose of the Deadites battling it out with Ash Williams (Bruce Campbell) alongside "Xena" co-star Lucy Lawless.
