Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert Divorce: 'The Voice' Coach Opens Up About Split
Blake Shelton has finally opened up about his divorce from wife Miranda Lambert during a guest appearance on Tuesday's episode of "Late Night With Seth Meyers." The singer talked about a possible run-in with his ex-wife at the upcoming Country Music Awards.
Shelton admitted that the upcoming Country Music Awards is going to be different. He said, "this year's gonna be awkward at the CMAs," given his divorce from Lambert. In the video below, Shelton is heard explaining why it would be uncomfortable if ever he and Lambert run into each other at the event.
"Because we are, it's such a family. Everybody there is friends. There's gotta be one about me and Miranda," he said.
Making light of the anticipated situation, Shelton joked about having already talked about the run-in with fellow country singer Brad Paisley.
"We've had the conversations like, 'OK, dude. I'll sit there and let you kick me in the face a few times,'" Shelton told Meyers. He added that he already knows a possible run-in with his ex-wife is inevitable, saying "I know it's coming."
According to Us Weekly, this year's Country Music Awards will be the first time that Shelton and Lambert will go to the event alone. They have reportedly been attending the awards together and even accepting joint awards since 2007. Lambert and Shelton filed for divorce after four years of marriage. It's believed the split was caused over claims Lambert had cheated on Shelton.
In the same interview with Meyers, Shelton also talked about working with Rihanna. The "Diamonds" singer was reportedly brought to "The Voice" as a celebrity mentor. Shelton talked about his attempts to jokingly flirt with Rihanna, which apparently failed.
"She's such a smart-ass. I never could get the upper hand with her. I was trying to get her to be a bit flirty, I mean, why not? I'm a perfect match for Rihanna. And so I was coming up with our couple name 'Blihanna' was one of them and 'Rake,'" he said.
The 31-year-old had previously joked about his affections towards the "Umbrella" singer during an interview with Access Hollywood's Liz Hernandez. He had expressed his amazement at the singer and even called Rihanna "funny." Shelton also joked that Rihanna is crazy about him. The country singer also teased of a possible collaboration in the future with RiRi but jokingly mentioned that they will "probably end up hooking up at some point."
