Soccer: Borussia Dortmund's Pierre-Emerick Wants to Play in Spain
Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been on the radar of English clubs Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham since the summer window. However, the 26-year-old Gabon international revealed, in an interview with BBC Sports, that he wants to play in Spain after his contract with Dortmund expires.
"One day I'll leave to play in another league. My dream is to play in Spain. Lots of people think that the Premier League would good for me but my mum is Spanish and I really have that dream to play over there. After that maybe one day the Premier League but for the moment I aim to one day play in Spain," Aubameyang said.
He also added the he is 100 percent committed to his current club and is not thinking about leaving at the moment. The striker said that he wants to finish the contract he signed, which ends in 2020.
Earlier in October, Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo via Barca Blaugranes reported that Barcelona is interested in signing the speedy striker. The officials of the Catalan club are said to be very impressed with his development in the past two years and is a good replacement for Luis Suarez once he starts to decline.
Aubameyang signed a new contract with Dortmund at the end of July this year, per the official BVB website. His initial contract with the club is set to expire in 2018 but is now extended by two years and with better terms.
The Gabon international is currently in the form of his life with 17 goals in 13 appearances in all competitions for the Black and Yellows, per Soccer Base. He also leads the Bundesliga in scoring with 13 goals in 10 matches.
In an interview with French newspaper L'Equipe via Goal.com, Aubameyang said that his dream is to score 40 goals in one season. "For years I've said that one day I'd like to score 40 goals. I'm on the right track. If a Ronaldo can score 50 goals a season, why can't I? I believe and I pray to become one of the best attackers on the planet," the striker said.
Many BVB fans call him "Auba." He is the son of former Gabon international player Pierre Aubameyang and has a Spanish mother. He was born in Laval, France, but was a product of AC Milan's youth academy in Italy. He never played a game for Milan but made his name with French club AS Saint-Etienne before signing with Dortmund in the summer of 2013, per The Guardian.
