Transfer Rumors: Pedro Unsettled in Chelsea, Wants FC Barcelona Return
Chelsea forward and winger Pedro is feeling unsettled in England and is open to the idea of returning to his former club Barcelona. According to a report by Spanish newspaper Fichajes, translated by The Metro, Pedro has told teammate Cesc Fabregas that he regrets leaving Spain.
The 28-year-old Spanish international was signed by Chelsea last summer for £21 million, scooping him up from rivals Manchester United, per The Mirror. He had a great debut, scoring a goal in the 3-2 win over West Bromwich Albion last Aug. 23.
Since then, Chelsea has faltered in the Premier League, losing five games in their first 10 matches. He also lost his form just like most Chelsea players as the club sit 15th in the EPL Table. The former Barcelona winger left Camp Nou because he was looking for more playing time, failing to crack into the starting lineup with Neymar Jr, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez upfront for Luis Enrique's attack, as reported by The Guardian.
Meanwhile, in Spain, Barcelona is currently second in the La Liga Table behind Real Madrid on goal difference. The Catalan club is currently without Messi and Rafinha due to injuries, and Pedro would have gotten the minutes he wanted.
However, The Marca reports that Pedro does not want to return to Barcelona despite the current situation with Chelsea. His mindset is to stay with his new club and honor the five-year contract he signed last August.
The report added that the player is aware that Messi is currently injured. He still knows that once the four-time Ballon d'Or winner returns, his status with the club will remain the same when he left, a substitute for the "MSN" trio of forwards. The Argentine forward is scheduled to return for El Clasico on Nov. 21.
It is also noted that Pedro is considering making a public statement or holding a press conference to deny the rumors but has not decided on what he will do to clarify that he is standing by his decision to leave Spain and stay in England.
If ever Pedro leaves for Barcelona or another club, he will not be the first player to come in Chelsea for a big money transfer and fails to settle with the club. Bleacher Report notes that the English club is known for this, citing Felipe Luis and Juan Cuadrado as examples.
Luis played only one season with the Blues before returning to Atletico Madrid this summer. Cuadrado was recently signed by Chelsea last January but was already loaned out to Juventus at the start of the season.
