Interim UFC Featherweight champion "Notorious" Conor McGregor has revealed during a fan Q&A in his hometown of Dublin, Ireland that he tore his ACL before his fight with Chad Mendes at UFC 189. The injury did not matter as he won via a second-round knockout to win the Interim title.

"Fourteen weeks before the fight I tore 80 percent of my ACL. I could barely walk, I could barely kick. I had a lot of experience coming back from that injury. I was aware of my body, I was aware of my balance. I had a good team around me. I trusted everyone that was there. That's how I perform," McGregor said via MMA Fighting.

"I had a lot of adversity to overcome. I went into that fight and I beat Chad on one leg. After going through that adversity I feel like I have gained three new legs," he added.

McGregor previously tore his ACL during a fight against Max Holloway last August 2013 in UFC Fight Night 26. Despite the injury, he won the bout via a unanimous decision and continued his quest to become the best featherweight in the world.

The injury forced "Notorious" to miss 10 months for recovery after surgery, per MMA Insider. He also suffered a strained MCL and posterior horn meniscal tear. There were no problems in his recovery as he was victorious in his next fight 11 months later.

He defeated Diego Brandão via a first-round knockout in the main event of UFC Fight Night 46 at his hometown of Dublin, Ireland. His next three fights showed no glimpses of slowing down as he scored three straight knockout wins.

The 27-year-old won in the first round against Dustin Poirier at UFC 178, then won in the second round versus Dennis Siver at UFC Fight Night 59 last January. He followed it up with the win over Mendes, and now looking for his third straight win of 2015 and the Unified Featherweight belt.

McGregor is scheduled to face the man he was scheduled to face at UFC 189, Featherweight champion Jose Aldo Jr. A rib injury forced him out of the card but looks ready to go for their title unification bout at UFC 194. It will be held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on Dec. 12. The main card will air on pay-per-view after the preliminary fights on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.
