The Los Angeles Angels almost made the postseason with a late-season surge finishing at 85-77, just a game behind the Houston Astros in the AL Wild Card Standings. According to Cheat Sheet, the Angels would need to upgrade their left field position during the offseason.

It is noted that the "The Halos" did not have enough production from the left side of the outfield, especially after they traded Josh Hamilton to the Texas Rangers early in the regular season. The Angels traded Hamilton to Rangers for cash and a player to be named later, per ESPN.

The void left by the 2010 AL MVP was filled with former Tampa Bay Rays player Matt Joyce, but struggled throughout the season. He batted a career low of .174 with five home runs and 21 RBIs, per Baseball-Reference.com.

Los Angeles front office acquired three more outfielders before the trade deadline: veterans David Murphy from the Cleveland Indians, David DeJesus from the Rays and Shane Victorino from the Boston Red Sox.

The Cheat Sheet reports that the Angels will likely let Joyce and Victorino walk away in free agency and have DeJesus and Murphy as utility outfielders and options for the designated hitter. The report notes that the Angels will likely pursue Justin Upton or Yoenis Cespedes in free agency this offseason as they have the cash to spend.

The 28-year-old Upton was a former first overall pick and has good power off his bat, per MLB Trade Rumors. He has already 190 career home runs with 82 over the last three seasons which is 17th in baseball in that span. Upton also has speed and defense that can make him very good fit with the Angels.

He is expected to fetch a contract worth $147 million for seven years with the New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, Baltimore Orioles, Seattle Mariners, Washington Nationals and Los Angeles Dodgers as possible suitors.

As for Cespedes, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports said that the New York Mets will let him walk in free agency to save the money for the extension of its young homegrown players. The Cuban outfielder was acquired by the Mets from the Detroit Tigers at the trade deadline, per NJ Advance Media.

Cespedes hit 17 home runs for the Mets in the second half of the season and can be considered for the NL MVP voting. He will be looking for his final major league contract because he's already 30 years old and can command a $100 million deal for six plus years.
