There have been a lot of talks surrounding the status of the fifth installment of the "Pirates Of The Caribbean". Some are good, while others are just plain disappointing.

For instance, it was previously reported that actors from the previous films, namely Johnny Depp, Keith Richards, and Geoffrey Rush will be reprising their roles in "Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales". As an added bonus, "Inglorious Basterds" breakout star Christoph Waltz has been rumored to play the fifth film's main antagonist, Captain Brand.

But then, Ian McShane, the actor who played Blacbeard in "On Stranger Tides" said that Disney has been indecisive regarding its updates on "Pirates Of The Caribbean 5".

But during yesterday's shareholders meeting in Portland, Oregon, Chairman Bob Iger clarified that Disney, the corporation behind the "Pirates" films, has not yet approved the production for the fifth installment, according to Cinemablend.

Marc Graser of Variety tweeted, "Disney's Bob Iger says that the fifth Pirates of the Caribbean film has not yet been given the greenlight.

Since the "Pirates" franchise earned more than $3 billion in box office sales worldwide, many people assumed that "Pirates of The Caribbean 5" is already a sure thing. But apparently, according to Iger's statement, the "Dead Men Tell No Tales" project is as good as dead as far as Disney is concerned.

Even with two directors on board, namely Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg, and a Puerto Rico and New Orleans shooting location, "Pirates Of The Caribbean 5" is unlikely to hit the big screen without a multi-million dollar studio supporting it.

But of course, with the film franchise's tie-in with the Disney theme park, there is still a good chance a "Dead Men Tell No Tales" film will be released. However, given the enormity of the film, the pre-production process would take a long time before it picks up. This means that if ever Disney decides to approve the fifth installment anytime soon, "Pirates Of The Caribbean 5" could hit theaters sometime in mid 2016 or 2017.
