Police Find Needles in Halloween Candy Given to Children Trick-or-Treating
Parents should be extra cautious before letting their children finish off their left over Halloween candy in light of multiple reports of trick-or-treaters finding sharp objects in their candy in Pennsylvania, Minnesota and New Jersey.
Philadelphia police notified residents in the suburb Kennett Square about a "needle-type item" that was found inside wrapped candy bars given to children from five different households on Saturday. Four children in the borough's Stenning Hills section were given wrapped Twix bars that contained objects that looked like needles, while a 12-year-old also turned in a Snickers bar with a needle in it on Sunday, police said. Police added that they believe the tampered-with candy was given out in the area of South Union Street and West South Street.
On Sunday, the Kennett Square Police Department sent a warning to the community about the dangerous candy in a Facebook message that said a "needle-type item was found inside five wrapped Twix bars given to four different children the evening of Oct. 31, 2015 in the Stenning Hills area of the borough." They also released photos of needles sticking out of the chocolate bars.
"The police department continues to urge parents to check all candy received prior to ingestion, and people with candy leftover that was not distributed to check it for tampering," reads the police department's Facebook page.
Meanwhile, police in central Minnesota said a woman in Brainerd reported finding a needle in her child's candy on Halloween, reports Fox News.
In New Jersey, Woodbury Heights Police said they received a report of a needle or pin discovered in a Snickers Almond chocolate bar, reports NBC Philadelphia. Michelle Garwood of Gloucester County shared several photos to Facebook Sunday showing a small pin or nail sticking out of a Snickers Almond bar.
The Tyler County Sheriff's Office said in a Facebook post that a mother in West Virginia "found a piece of a disposable razor blade in a bite size Snickers bar" that was given to her child.
In addition, Ohio police reported that a girl from Reynoldsburg discovered a disposable razor inside a candy bar after she took a bite of it, according to FOX2.
Fortunately, no one reported being injured or ingesting the tampered candy.
