Xbox One Backwards-Compatible Games List Coming Out, Elite Controller Sells Out
It's an early holiday treat from the bigwigs of Microsoft. Over a hundred backwards-compatible games on Xbox One will be announced on Monday, Nov. 9.
The news was confirmed by Xbox executive Mike Ybarra who went on Twitter to tell the fans.
"For those asking, we'll announce the initial set of 100+ backward compatible titles on 11/9, just a few days before our release!" Ybarra tweeted in his personal Twitter account.
The release Ybarra was referring to in his recent tweet referred to the launch of the New Xbox One Experience. Microsoft's upcoming upgrade will be coming on Thursday, Nov. 12 and is set to breathe new life to the console experience with new features including backwards compatibility.
So far, an initial list of around 30 games has already been confirmed as backwards compatible by Xbox including "Gears of War", "Mass Effect", "Perfect Dark Zero" and more. The company has assured fans that this is only scratching the surface as the team is planning to make hundreds of Xbox 360 titles playable on the newest generation console, according to a report from GameSpot.
The backwards compatibility feature of the Xbox One is a major step for the company, a move that Xbox marketing boss Aaron Greenberg calls the new feature "tremendous" in an interview with GameSpot.
"It's another differentiator for us," he explained. "We're going to be the only next-gen console delivering backwards compatibility. And we're launching that on Nov. 12, we'll have over 100 games that basically come free of charge. If you own these titles, whether you have the disc sitting around or digitally, they'll automatically show up in your games library and, in many cases, more than double or triple your available games to play on Xbox One."
It's been one home run after another for Xbox with the Xbox One Elite Controller also making waves with retail sales rocketing through the roof. The premium controller is sold for a hefty price of $150, but gamers seem to be willing to shell out the cash as the gear was quickly sold out according to a report from Venture Beat.
"We're thrilled at the amount of interest we've received for the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller," a Microsoft spokesperson said. "We are working quickly to get more units of the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller in the hands of fans, and look forward to replenishing inventory in time for the holidays."
A report from Polygon revealed that new stocks of the controller will be delivered to retailers every week, but units may be limited throughout the month.
