Spike Lee Releases First Trailer For ‘Chi-Raq,’ Features Urban Violence in Chicago [Watch]
Spike Lee and Amazon have teamed up for a co-partnership film titled "Chi-Raq" and have released the first full-length trailer for the film.
According to Variety, the film is not a documentary but rather a dramatic retelling of the violence that happens in urban communities in and around Chicago. It centers most of its material around gang violence that leads to people being shot and killed in large number around their communities.
The trailer starts off with what appears to be a wartime warning, which is a graphic on-screen that reads and says at the same time, "This is an emergency." The graphic appears three times with what appears to be dramatic circumstances.
The details of the trailer compare Chicago to the war in Iraq, even quoting the number of people killed on one certain day in Chicago had surpassed the number of people killed on the same day in Iraq.
The women of the community are trying to form a remedy to the epidemic by banding together and finding a new and creative way to stop the violence. They do this by making a pact that they will be withholding sex from their men.
"I will deny rights of access and entrance," the women said as group, repeatedly, as a decree for what they intend to do about the issue.
The trailer seemed to show Samuel L. Jackson as an on-screen narrator for the trailer and likely inside of the film as well. That does not exclude him as character in the film's events either.
The film also features the acting talents of Teyonah Parris, Nick Cannon and John Cusack.
The film will have a limited release in theaters and then will soon be followed up with an exclusive VOD arrangement on Amazon Prime. The theatrical release will be on Dec. 4 followed by the Amazon Instant Video release.
