The "Halo 5: Guardians" has now made history as the biggest "Halo" launch of all time. The recently released game hit its $400 million mark in global sales during the first week, making it the most successful launch of the franchise and driving the franchise revenue to a total of over $5 billion.

According to a report from GameSpot, Microsoft made the announcement, adding that the "Halo 5: Guardians" has also become the fastest-selling Xbox One exclusive game and the most-played title on Xbox Live over its first week of release.

"Fans have logged more than 21 million hours of total gameplay, including 12 million hours in campaign mode alone," Microsoft said in a statement on the official Xbox website. "The widely praised multiplayer modes have also led to nine million total hours played with nearly seven million multiplayer matches played across Arena and the all-new Warzone mode. In addition, 'Halo' fans are taking to the new Requisition System in a big way, with over 45 million REQ Packs acquired, totaling more than 568 million REQ Cards."

The game has earned positive reviews to kick off the success and the sheer volume of fans tuning in is staggering and a testament to the quality of the "Halo" franchise. "Halo 5: Live" even set a Guinness World Records title as the most watched video game launch broadcast with over 330,000 unique streams.

"The success of 'Halo 5: Guardians' is a testament to the innovative work from the entire team at 343 Industries to bring this installment to Xbox One and the incredible community of fans who have come to love the story, characters and gameplay central to the franchise," Xbox head Phil Spencer said. "The game represents all the possibilities of Xbox One and has earned its place as the anchor title in the greatest holiday games lineup in Xbox history."

And 343 Industries isn't taking any time off. Fresh off the success of the fifth installment, the developer is already planning for "Halo 6." Last September, franchise development director Frank O'Connor talked to Games Radar and said the team already has an idea of what's in store.

"We're doing serious real planning and even some writing on the next game already, and that's a luxury - we've never been in that position before," he explained. "So we both know at a very high level what's going to happen in, say, ten years from now."

Although the details are scarce at this point, a report from Yibada revealed that 343 Industries is planning to bring back the split screen feature after fans complained about the lack of one in "Halo 5."
