Though director Quentin Tarantino recently made headlines for some controversial remarks, he also just released a new trailer for his eighth film, titled "The Hateful Eight."

According to Rolling Stone, Tarantino has hit another home run with his new film, returning to the Western genre, a common setting for his movies.

"The Hateful Eight" is set in Wyoming, several years after the end of the Civil War. The plot follows eight people who are forced to take refuge and wait out a blizzard on a mountain pass.

Tension enters the situation as everyone in the enormous cabin gains a reason to kill one another. All are tempted by terrible deeds in the name of justice or free enterprise.

The new trailer provides a deeper look at the main characters, who each receive a title card with a nickname. The protagonists are known as The Bounty Hunter, The Hangman, The Prisoner, The Sheriff, The Mexican, The Little Man, The Cow Puncher and The Confederate.

Deadline reports much of the action of the film revolves around The Prisoner, played by actress Jennifer Jason Leigh, who has been brought to the mountain lodge on her way to be hanged for the charge of murder. When the others find out that there is a $10,000 reward for her capture and delivery, they begin to plot against her captor, The Hangman, to score the bounty for themselves.

The cast of eight includes Leigh, Kurt Russell, Samuel L. Jackson, Walton Goggins, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Bruce Dern and Demian Bichir.

The film is scheduled for a special release on Christmas Day in limited venues to be displayed on 70mm film. It will then get a wide release in digital theaters on Jan. 8, 2016.
