Xiaomi Mi Band 1S: Xiaomi Updates Mi Band and Keeps Price Extremely Low, Adds Heart Rate Sensor
Xiaomi is a technology brand that is extremely popular in China, but it is still waiting for its big jump into the United States. With affordable smartphones and the upcoming Mi Band 1S available for under $20, Xiaomi could enter the U.S. with a big head of steam.
Xiaomi is updating the Mi Band with the Mi Band 1S, and it will add a heart rate monitor, GSM Arena reports. The Chinese company will keep the device extremely cheap, at around $16.
The Mi Band 1S will continue to offer step counting and sleep monitoring. With the heart rate monitor the Mi Band 1S will become even more functional.
The Mi Band offers vibrating and LED notifications and those alerts will continue to be offered in the Mi Band 1S.
Having a smartphone nearby will help power the Mi Band 1S. Users will be able to unlock their phones when it is within range. The phone will remain password-protected to others.
The new Mi Band 1S has updated its dimensions to 37 x 13.6 x 9mm. This might mean that old bracelets from the original Mi Band will not fit since the dimensions of the original Mi Band is 36 x 14 x 9mm. The heart rate sensor probably contributed to the extra half gram of weight in the Mi Band 1S. It now weighs 5.5 grams.
Thankfully, the Mi Band 1S will retain its waterproofing and dustproofing technology. It has the same IP67 rating that the Mi Band has. This means it can be dipped in water (up to 1 meter in depth) for up to 30 minutes and still maintain its performances. It is also completely dust proof.
The battery on the Mi Band was promised to last up to 30 days. With the heart rate monitor, if used often, will cut down on battery life, even though it is the same 45 mAh battery.
The Mi Band 1S will be available Wednesday in China with a starting price of CNY99, which is a little less than $16 in the U.S. Techradar expects the Mi Band 1S will come to the U.S. soon.
According to pictures posted to the official Xiaomi Global Facebook page, the band will be available in a few colors including blue, black and white.
