Bill Cosby Sex Assault Scandal Update: New Hampshire Woman Joins Accusers Filing Defamation Suits
A New Hampshire woman has joined a growing list of alleged sex assault victims now suing Bill Cosby for defamation.
The New York Daily News reports Kristina Ruehli, 72, charges Cosby branded her a "fanciful liar" when she came forward in 2014 to reveal the abuse she allegedly suffered at the hands of the legendary comedian more than five decades ago.
Ruehli insists she was just 22 years old and working as a secretary at a talent agency when she met Cosby, and he invited her to a party at his California home. Upon arriving, she found the home was nearly empty, but felt comfortable enough to stay and have a drink with Cosby, particularly after he showed her his infant sleeping nearby.
But after two drinks, Ruehli alleges she blacked out. By the time she regained consciousness, she claims she found herself naked, with Cosby forcibly performing a sex act on her.
Recently, Cosby's then attorney Martin Singer dismissed Ruehli's claims as "unsubstantiated, fantastical stories" aimed at securing a payday from the comedian.
In all, more than 50 women have now emerged to accuse "The Cosby Show" dad of similar attacks, with alleged incidents spanning the last five decades. Cosby has never been criminally charged, and his representatives have vehemently denied all the accusations.
Recently, he was grilled for more than seven hours by famed civil rights attorney Gloria Allred in yet another suit, in which former Playboy bunny Judy Huth alleges she was drugged and assaulted by Cosby at the mansion more than 40 years ago.
"It is one thing for an accused sexual assailant to remain silent and allow the legal process, or public opinion, to run its course, but it is quite another for him to unleash his agents to deny that he attacked [Ruehli] and other women, to invite others to republish his statements, and to brand them as unreliable liars," Ruehli's new lawsuit states.
