Metal Gear Solid V News: Unlockable Nuclear Cutscene Revealed
Details have emerged about a secret cutscene accessible in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
Gamespot reported on the new unlockable, revealed in the game's official strategy guide.
To view the cutscene, players must first complete Mission 31, without owning or developing a nuclear weapon. Any nukes in possession must be dismantled.
The instructions then state that "certain conditions related to nuclear proliferation" must be met, depending on what platform's regional sever players are using -- PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 or PC.
Finally, all of the nuclear weapons on the player's regional server must be dismantled, bringing the total number of nukes on the server down to zero. This, of course, would require players on the server to coordinate with one another.
If these conditions are met successfully, the event should trigger.
Of course, unless all players agree to dismantle their nuclear weapons, this won't happen. Maybe game director Hideo Kojima included the hidden unlockable as a political statement. Can players do what our current world leaders can't and put aside their differences to achieve this one goal?
It's unlikely many players will try, as the cutscene has already been posted to YouTube. Still, does it really hold the same significance if players can't band together and pull it off themselves?
In true Kojima tradition, this is just one of the many Easter Eggs hidden within the Phantom Pain. Others include references to Konami's experimental horror teaser for the cancelled project Silent Hills, as well as a cameo from the MGS creator himself.
Despite news that Kojima had left Konami, he later confirmed that he was still working at the studio and was simply taking a break. However, it is unknown what role he will play in the next MGS title, if any.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was released in September to critical acclaim. It is available for PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.
