HTC M10 Just a Myth? Next HTC Flagship To Feature Snapdragon 820 SoC?
Two often-reliable gadget tipsters have butt heads regarding HTC's next-generation flagship smartphone. ROM developer @LlabTooFeR tweeted over the weekend that the upcoming device would be known as the HTC M10. Meanwhile, @Ricciolo1 said the device would go by a different moniker.

While its name is still up in the air, One thing we do know about the next HTC flagship is that, according to @Ricciolo1, it will feature Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 chipset. HTC has been long-rumored to be among the mobile manufacturers who have been waiting for Qualcomm to ship its latest top-tier SoC. The renowned chip maker has just unveiled the Snapdragon 820 this week.
It can't be overstated that HTC needs to release a new high-end offering soon in order to make amends for the lukewarm reception of the HTC One M9.
Last summer, HTC chairperson Cher Wang told stockholders that the company is working on a "Hero" device, as per Pocket-lint. The high-end branding had many believing the device would be the HTC One A9. Much to the chagrin of HTC fans last month, the HTC One A9 was introduced as a mid-level handset.
The device is pretty decent. It just fell victim to the high expectations set about by HTC fans. The company didn't do much to dispel the misguided hype either. Nonetheless, the letdown has only brightened the spotlight on the next high-end HTC offering.
To sum it all up, we now know there's another HTC flagship on the way, possibly arriving in the second quarter of 2016. It won't be known as the HTC M10, but it will be powered by the Snapdragon 820 chipset.
Speaking of the freshly introduced Snapdragon 820, the SoC marks Qualcomm's return to custom-made CPU cores. The chip maker had perfected this setup until it decided to use ARM designs for the Snapdragon 810, GSM Arena reported.
The Snapdragon 820 includes a quad-core CPU with 64-bit Kryo cores clocked at 2.2 GHz. The CPU is rumored to perform twice as fast as the one featured on the Snapdragon 810. Efficiency is also doubled this time around as SD 820 contains the new Hexagon 680 DSP, which is responsible for digital signal processing.
Graphics performance is said to be improved up to 40 percent with the Adreno 530 GPU. This means faster games and more efficient power usage.
