Former Los Angeles Lakers star, Lamar Odom, has done a great deal in recovering from an alleged drug overdose that almost took his life, but he is still facing a long road ahead and worse come to worst, he "may not fully recover."

He may have regained his consciousness but Odom is not still out of the woods. Odom, who was reportedly planning for a major NBA return when he recovers, might not be able to achieve his goal because he could hardly stand or even walk, according to a Hollywood Life report.

"Lamar is doing OK, but by no means is he back to his old self," a source told the publication exclusively.

The source said that the former NBA star has been struggling to cope physically, as his attempts to walk and stand "for long periods of time" were unsucessful. The source also said that his cognitive and articulating abilities were also affected.

"So is talking to some extent and his memory has been effected. To be honest, he may never fully recover," the source added.

Even his wife, Khloe Kardashian, is fully accepting of Odom's situation.

During the 31-year-old's interview with Extra (via Hollywood Life), she told host Terri Seymour that while there were signs Odom is getting better, there are also times that his health takes a step back.

"It's gonna be a long long time, every day is different. Some days he's really strong and some days he's weaker than the day before because it's mentally draining - I'm sure - on him," Kardashian told the host.

The E! reality star also revealed the recovery plan for Odom. First off, she said that Odom should try to learn how to walk again. And when he has passed through it and can support himself with little or no assistance, that's the time when he can "leave the hospital and do a lot of cognitive and mental strengthening."

While his recovery has been one step further and one step back, one good thing for the former NBA superstar is that he is off his machines.

"He's definitely doing better which is awesome, every day is better," Kardashian said. "He's off of all machines. He is alive on his own, and no machines are helping him, which is great."
