Action-packed open-world game "Just Cause 3" will be in shelves soon and while Avalanche Studios chose to focus completely on single-player mode for this installment, a representative revealed that the team might consider adding a multiplayer option in the future.

Game director Roland Lesterlin addressed the questions about venturing beyond solo play in an interview with GameSpot recently.

"We did talk about it a lot," Lesterlin confirmed during the interview. "The modding community even created a multiplayer mod for 'Just Cause 2' that was super fun, really cool. The same way that 'Just Cause 2' was known as a beautiful sandbox in a giant open world, and it surprised many people that consoles could even do that, we wanted to have that same experience... with updated physics and player mechanics, and concentrate first and foremost in the main player."

While there are some fans who may be interested in exploring a multiplayer world in "Just Cause 3", Lesterlin explained that what players really enjoyed from the franchise are the social features available in the various platforms.

"What we found was that a lot of players loved sharing videos of what they did. So we wanted to work on the asynchronous side of things," he said. "The challenges, ghost mode within leaderboards, being able to challenge your friends to beat feats you did in the world. Having these great PS4 Share feature and the Xbox upload feature, and Steam now has a spectator mode too. Having all these things in there feels perfect for a 'Just Cause' game."

He continued, "It doesn't mean we wouldn't think about what to do with multiplayer in the future, but for this first time around we wanted to pour all our love and energy into a great single-player sandbox to start with."

The upcoming game's predecessor "Just Cause 2" was similarly focused on single-player mode. According to a report from Game Informer, fans created a multiplayer mod based on the action game that was approved by Avalanche Studios and released as an official "Just Cause 2" DLC pack.

It was a successful project that showed the potential of the franchise for an actual multiplayer mode, but the Avalanche executive Christofer Sundberg reiterated their plans of sticking to the sandbox experience saying, "We don't expect the fans to make the multiplayer for 'Just Cause 3', but at some point you have to make a choice on where your focus is. Our strength is the sandbox experience, and we want to deliver a great Just Cause 3 experience."

"Just Cause 3" for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC is slated for release on Dec. 1.
