Xbox One Elite Wireless Controller: Third Party Sellers Charge $500 for New Impossible to Find $150 Controller
Microsoft's premium Xbox One Elite Wireless Controller is packed with features and customizations, but it is almost impossible to find. Customers wanting the new controller will either have to wait a very long time or pay a high markup.
The Xbox One Elite Wireless Controller costs $150, but it looks like Microsoft has not manufactured enough to keep up with the demand, Tech Radar reports.
It is possible that the company originally did not expect this many gamers to hand over $150 for a controller, producing a limited amount of units. Microsoft has now realized the high demand and scarce supply.
Customers looking on Amazon for the new controller will find that availability in the U.S. has been updated. If an order is placed on Wednesday, it will be fulfilled in Spring 2016, the website claims. That is a long time to wait for a controller.
Meanwhile, listings on eBay have the controller going for prices of up to $499.99 through the "buy it now" option. Other listings are trending between $219 and $300. Auction listings start at about $200.
The Elite controller has been getting excellent reviews because players can customize it to their liking. Buttons can be moved around and sensitivity can be changed based on players' preferences.
The device is also hard to find in the U.K. at the original price. Many third party sellers have increased their prices to at least £184.95, when the controller normally costs £149.99.
Buyers who really want the controller are going to have to pay a premium. People who cannot justify paying such a high price for a controller will have to wait until Amazon ships out their orders in the Spring or until Microsoft decides to add more inventory.
